the seminar explored the notion of design finesse as both as investigative and operative term. the goal was to apply findings of criteria for finesse in historic and contemporary precedents towards fabricating a series of physical prototypes that demonstrate how this approach can produce an alternative vision for the convergence of technology, technique and material. this prototype investigated the materialization of a digital model by using laser-cut mylar and wire to create a gradient field of modules. the gradation originates from the variation of amount of material cut out. the series of physical models evolved as challenges of materiality such as support between each module and rigidity of the mylar were overcome.
